in a couple of hours, were leaving for cebu. we're all excited an nervous for this tour.
but i can speak for everyone that we are glad for edwin and cathy tying the knot. we have them to thank for these shows, as well as harakiri mosh for the friday gig. totally punk rock.

i have all my gear packed up, my guitar needs new strings but ill restring it when i get there.
we have merchandise ready, a bunch of legarda shirts, legarda demos that were gonna sell really cheap because i wanted to give away but we'd need the extra cash for food, and a few more records to sell.

i am looking forward to see tiger pussy rock my socks off. bombo pluto ova is another band i'm anticipating. plus the other bands are definitely gonna be better than us. hahaha. but it's an honor.

on the other side of things, i feel sad that jon can't make it due to grave family matters.
so much shit has been happening these past months and we know it's been hard for him.
despite our heavy hearts, we must go on. oh weall wish for better things. hinode.

i'm still tired from a photo shoot that took me to the mountains of liliw laguna yesterday
but we're all ready to go. hope nothing goes wrong and we get back in tact.

oh, tomorrow, legarda are playing a wedding reception before the gig.
isn't that fun?

king ly chee (china hardcore) interview

hong kong's king ly chee has been one of my favorite bands in the region.
they have been to the philippines 4 times and they never fail to amaze me.
these folks have so much heart and have a ridiculous touring ethic.
it's hard not to get goosebumps when listening to their songs.
empowering lyrics and themes that hit close to home.

i catched up with riz and the rest of the guys before they left their hotel to play in summerslam
and managed to do a quick interview for you folks.
i only recognized riz and brian, turns out they have a brand new line up.
to top it off, it was their first gig that night and the new songs were amazing.

cebu city's tigerpussy did 4 dates here in manila last week.
cooking up punkrock with riotgrrl influences and some dancepunk/artpunk and you get tigerpussy.
really pissed-off female vocals, furious start-stop-go-then-dancey parts, all energy.
a perfect recipe for a really good band, no, an awesome band!
first caught them in saguijo last wednesday.
by the time my band, legarda, opened the night, they were still on a plane from cebu.
despite getting lost on the way and arriving all so dazed,

they played last on the bill and kicked ass like they owned the place.

too bad the crow have thinned.
despite being new and a bit green musically, a few akward moments, they made it up with spunk and attitude onstage.
they had a lot of things to say, and jan (who wielded two mics) spoke her mind about each song before they played it.
it's rare nowadays that bands say their mind about things be it political or personal before performing.
obviously, a lot of heart has been put into the words. a bit of dialect problems didn't put them off though.
their music was fun and angry at the same time. "fungry" as jan put it.
some bands that come into mind are bikini kill, yeah yeah yeahs, the kills and fast times.

they ended their tour with a gig in laguna with fellow cebu bands gardo, shrapnel, queen city crew.
the venue was insanely hot due to inadequate ventilation, but tigerpussy tore it up with their set.

amidst all the chugga-chugga hardcore and fastcore in the scene, tigerpussy is a breath of fresh air.
furious yet quite enjoyable. not intimidating hardcore punk but nevertheless the music commands your attention.
dancepunk bands are dime a dozen nowadays, so is punk rock.
but tigerpussy manages to merge the two, strip it to the basics, slap on a message and whip it up without sounding dated or cliched.

a demo/record is in the works. i'm excited to see this band improve, tighten up their rhythm section, and write more songs.
cross your fingers that they come back to manila soon.
